stitch me up!

wooops! one last goody from toggle!!!! NZ Cupcake Queen is dominating in the cross stich revival with their user friendly kits!

"Designed by City the NZ Cupcake Queen, these cheeky new cross stitch kits are all based on traditional old school tattoo art.
These kits are for sassy stitchers looking for a quirky new project and are ideal for both beginners and experienced cross stitchers."

intricacy

no realllllyyy...I am doing work...I am just fitting it around my important blogging business. Top of the business list is Kate Barton. Just found her beautiful, intricate line drawings on Toggle. Kind of fairytale cross sections? But affordable fairytale cross sections at that.

shiny, sexy, sequins

Can't help but mention this....Kylie, the original psychedelic AUSSIE girl has transformed her disco moves into sparkling, totally over indulgent, shiny, sequined bed linen range! I think it is fun and fresh! Best to web search to find your closest stockist.

.....like butter.

I came across Like Butter when I was swooning over the amazing giant tree that Ink and Spindle had made for their trade fair set up. LOVE the large scale, meaty, creative work thought up and made in Australia.

"Like Butter was born out of frustration with major manufactures, we were sick of slow quotes and a lethargic interest from industry so we invested in the gear ourselves. We run a small computer controlled cutting table that can work with either a plasma cutter (steels and other metals) or a router (timbers, plastics, aluminium). Laura is a kinetic sculptor who recently completed hers masters at the Victorian College of the Arts and Jem is an industrial designer."

Meadowlark on THE KILLS

Here is some pretty awesome exposure for my favourite Kiwi brand Meadowlark! The Kills were recently in Auckland to share some of their muso talent with the locals and wouldn't you know it....they fell in love with some home grown Meadowlark goodness.

mark my words...

Just found these GORGEOUS NZ made cards via the Swonderful site. Messege Mark are makers with a conscience, donating a percentage of each card sold to CureCF. I am in love. They have a great, user friendly webshop....so no excuses there.

beautiful butterfly

Spotted this new find from UTE Australia over at Indie Art and Design.

"The Butterfly Coat Rack is a blend of traditional styling and cutting edge technology used to create this familiar yet strikingly new product. The design incorporates a traditional bentwood styled coat rack head rendered using modern manufacturing techniques to produce a coat rack that is both stylish and functional. Designed for wall mounting it makes the ideal storage solution where space is at a premium."

day by day with Eveline

We are, after all, still only in March so I think that it is still COMPLETELY acceptable to give people a calender. Even more so when it is by one of Australia's most talented illustrators (and each image could easily be cropped and framed as a limited edition piece of art once used!!) Buy your own Eveline Tarundjaja 2009 for just $15AU here.

soft focus

At a recent wedding I had a brilliant chance meeting with a school friend of my Mums; Anna Guild. Having seen a couple of Anna's soft works in water colour I was keen to see more so asked her to pop through some examples of her recent work. It wasn't until her children had one by one moved to do their schooling in Christchurch that she pursued her interest in art and began to attend workshops and work on her technique. Watercolours quickly became her medium of choice and she has enjoyed growing success with local exhibitions and sales both nationally and over seas. For more info contact anna@highpeak.co.nz

re birth

My sister who is living in Perth at the mo sent me some websites of people and products she had stumbled across. One was pinchandspoon. I am so intrigued!! It seems that these guys (no info on the site...) take discarded clothing and transform them into new, usable, fashion based items! I think it is kind of gorgeous what they create...less recycling, more like a clothing re-birth. Take a browse through their site to check out stockists new you or contact the designers themselves.

Wheely baro

Here's some kiwi ingenuity for you!!!

"It was around seven or eight years ago that Matt Moriarty stood in the backyard with his dad, taking a break from post-graduate study at Victoria University, having a good yarn. “Ever sat in a wheelbarrow? It’s surprisingly comfortable.” For Matt, a young, up and coming designer full of quirky ideas, this was more than idle musings over garden tools; the gears were already clicking and an idea was taking shape. “You know Dad, I reckon there’s something in this…”

Check out the rest of Matt's idea and profile at clever bastards.
